Eating Disorders

Bluegrass Nutrition Counseling has been dedicated to counseling individuals with eating disorders for over 20 years.  We offer a comfortable outpatient setting for individuals and their families to share their stories, find answers to their questions and seek peace and freedom from their eating disorders.

Traditionally, after the initial assessment/consultation, we re-evaluate our clients every 6-8 weeks to determine if a higher level of care is needed.  A higher level of care could mean an IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program), PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program), Residential or Inpatient Program.  Some of the programs our clients have attended include: Alsana, Center for Change, Eating Recovery Center, Fairhaven, Focus, McCallum Place, Monte Nido, Remuda Ranch, Renfrew Center, River Centre Clinic, Selah House, Timberlane Knolls and Veritas.

If you are transitioning back home or college from a higher level of care, we also help with this transition by following up regularly, monitoring meal plans and eating disorder behaviors, continuing challenges such as restaurant dining, eating with family/friends, grocery shopping, etc. Since we offer only outpatient nutrition therapy, we team up with other members of the community who have experience with eating disorders.  That team usually consists of a counselor, primary care physician and/or psychiatrist.

With over 20 years’ experience as a Medical Nutrition Therapist specializing in eating disorders, Tina uses an individualized approach to treatment and/or transition from a higher level of care.  She is certified through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) and is a certified supervisor.  Developing a healthy relationship with food, learning about metabolism and your body’s nutritional needs as well as reducing /eliminating eating disorder behaviors are all goals. Strategies may vary but positive outcomes are important.  Shannon Winke, Emily Gogel and Katie Ullery also counsel clients with eating disorders under Tina’s supervision.

If you think you have an eating disorder, know someone who does, or suspects someone might, please give us a call to schedule an initial consultation.
