Common Questions

Is nutrition counseling right for me?

Seeking out nutrition counseling is an individual choice. There are many reasons why people see a nutrition expert. Sometimes it is to deal with a recent change in their medical history such as elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels. Other times, it is to get a grasp on their diabetes and the impact it has on their lifestyle. In some cases, it might be for weight issues and guidance through long-term behavior changes is a must. Long-standing psychological issues or problems with anxiety or depression often take a toll on bodies and nutrition intake often suffers. Other times nutrition counseling is in response to unexpected changes in one's life such as a divorce or work transition. Many seek the advice of counsel as they pursue their own personal exploration and growth. Working with a nutrition counselor can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Nutrition counseling is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working towards positive change in their lives.

Do you accept insurance? How does insurance work?

To determine if you have health coverage, the first thing you should do is check with your insurance carrier. Check your coverage carefully and find the answers to the following questions:

  • Is Medical Nutrition Therapy a covered service under my medical plan?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • What is the coverage amount per session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
  • How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provide

Is counseling confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and health care professional unless the client is under 18 years of age where we support the rights of the minor as well as keep communication lines open with their parents/guardians. If the client is over 18 years of age, no information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.
